I thought it would be nice to add a simple video showing the routine operation and environment in which crossing systems in Japan are used. This video captures some interesting elements of Japanese motor law and culture such as the requirement to stop at all crossings and the courtesy displayed in leaving room ahead of the stopped cars for any vehicles or pedestrians which might wish to cross in front. Note the way the crossing bell volume decreases after the gate has closed.
